Here's a few of my feeder visitors today. GH3 with 100-300, through a window.

After taking the photo of the bird with a small lizard in his mouth, the bird jumped into the tree bush. A local guy saw it and ran up and starting searching the tree bush. After a while he found something and asked me to come to see. There was a bird nest with 2 young birds.

American Goldfinch

One more for today - catching up on some older images - this one from early January. These are resident year round for us.

And another thing...

A little humor to end the week on. Taken through glass so the sharpness is a little diminished. Have a great weekend everyone.

this guy has been stalking the neighborhood. I think I found the nest so I'll be back to see if I can get a better vantage point. Need a longer lens also

If there are chicks in the nest be careful. I got dive bombed a couple of times trying to photograph hawks this past summer. Momma just got sick of me pointed a big lens up at her kids.

This was an experiment using the 300mm f4.5 Zuiko on a a 2x adapter that Olympus made specifically for the 100, 135, and 200mm lenses. At 100 percent there is naturally more degradation to the image, but since I get in closer, I don't have to crop as much and thus the viewing size represents something more around 25% than the frequent 50% of shots taken with the 300 alone. I haven't decided if it will work for frequent use, but it seems capable of getting me good results with the right post processing. Focusing is harder, of course. Here's one handheld with 600mm on the E-M5.

I tried the Oly 75mm with good results on the birds. I was pretty close to the feeder, of course, but I do like the colors compared to the legacy glass I was using. These are cropped Jpegs with no processing right from the camera.

I'm very pleased with the result I'm getting from the unrecommended combination of the F. Zuiko 300mm f4.5 on the X2A telephoto adapter. My experience is that on the E-M5 the adapter works better with the 300 than it does with the 200 f4 for which it was ostensibly matched. I used a tripod for these with the functions for turning and pointing up and down loosened so I could follow on of our feather friends. I lose a fair number to mis-focus, but not many more than using the 300 hand held. The duck is of the entire frame, the Towee is cropped some.

Snowy Owl

We've had Rare Bird Alerts for the last couple of weeks on the NH coast for seven of these. This is from this morning from Ragged Neck in Rye (location of Rye Harbor State Park).

We also saw another one in a less idyllic locale - on a roof at Hampton State Beach a little further south.
