From the leg length and body size, I think it was a year old or younger GBH. There's a mostly vacant heron rookery about 1/4 mile away. I suspect the eagles found the bird already dead; the feathers are really beat up and a fresh kill wouldn't look like that.

Saw this poor bird in the park on Sydney foreshore a little while ago. The bird was very agitated with the hook in it's chest.
A few people tried to catch it to take to a rescue centre but failed.

I set up my iPhone 12 mini for these and used the remote shutter on my (ancient) Apple Watch. I've done this a few times now, and birds seem to pay no mind to smartphones.
