These beauties visit the woods around my house a lot. Today while out in the yard, I saw 4 of them, but these two always stick close together. A mating pair? They very vocally announced their arrival as they landed in a tree on the hillside just below me. I wasn't quick enough to catch them together on the same branch before one glided to an adjacent tree, but they hung around long enough for me to creep closer and get these images. I love watching them.

Went to central Utah this week to photograph Snow Geese as they head north to their summer tundra home. Delta, Utah has an annual Snow Goose Festival and it is this weekend. About all we got was bitter cold weather, snow, limited visibility and temps in the teens. Did manage a few shots of S.G. flying high overhead. Also got a few snaps of a Bald Eagle, Prairie Falcon, Kestrel and a Red-tailed hawk munching on a rat and frozen fingers!

It was a very cold weekend to be out in Utah. I went to see the Snow Geese 2 years ago, and they all flew away when I got out of my truck to take a photo (this was with dozens of photographers set up between me and the reservoir).

These seem to be common everywhere I go. I had it on preburst with HS2. I got so excited it was taking off, I let up on the shutter and missed the rest of the burst. But, as luck would have it, the bird faked me out. And just stood there.

I've barely used my Sigma 56mm 1.4, but am taking a real shine to it. :)

Beginner's mistake: hand held on a boat rocked by the waves, panny 100-300 II
F5.3, 1/15s, 246mm, ISO1600
Should have tried the ISO at 6400 and 12800

I see it is 7* in Delta this morning. The reservoir was frozen solid and the few birds there were sitting on the ice. Did find a large flock of Canada's in a field but no feeding S.G. We have been there many times and this was the first time we have been skunked with S.G. What made it hard to find feeding S.G. was the limited visibility and the fact that most all the grain fields were covered in several inches of snow.
