Sandhill Cranes are starting to show up by the dozens at Cosumnes River Preserve in the Central Valley near Lodi. Soon, there will be thousands. If you've never heard them, it's a prehistoric experience.

Can't comment with regards to using it with panny but if you have any doubts with regards to what this lens can produce: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bidkev/albums/72157700885186861/page2
Thanks. My question was more about mixing brands than it was about the lens. I know sometimes that results in loss of OIS, which seems like that would be more important on long lenses.

With the G9's incredible stabilization and keeping in mind that super telephoto requires very good technique including understanding the effects of wind and humidity you should love it. Get a Canon 500D dual element closeup lens and you have a very nice macro setup also. I think the 75mm setting on this lens has some magic to it. Remember I own the Pl100-400 and still use this lens a lot:) Buy used here and you should get one for 250-300, just make sure it's the II model.
