Lots of great shots and talent here. Hoping someone can take a peek at my shots below. Im not exactly happy with their sharpness, but im not sure what I might be missing. I cant tell if theyre OOF or if its motion blur or what, maybe im just expecting too much. They all look soft at 1:1.
Stationary shots are S-AF, small target; flying shots are C-AF 5 point +1 sensitivity. flight shots are 1/1000+and cropped to about 10MP.

Are you expecting too much for the lense and TC? I've same and distance shots drop off in my use.
How far away were these?
ISO1600. I've only an EM5-2 but wouldn't get the quality you are at that ISO
Sorry, probably not much help.

Well ime possibly not the right person to get involved but, at my age and unsteady hands i never look for 1.1 sharpness i only look for a semi-respectable result for online forum posting, i can enjoy my photography more that way.
A few of points though i hardly ever go below 1/2000th for flight shots i use +2 refocus and scanner mode 3, i do wonder if more could be brought out in your PP, i dropped the curves slightly on this one and gave it some unsharp mask, i also blurred the background just to make it stand out more.

Grab shots of the first Tufted Ducks to return for winter on the lake, large crop as i knew the speed they fly especially with the wind up their arris if i took the time to zoom and reframe i would miss them.
