This Hawk occasionally makes a visit to my yard, when he does the other critters become very scarce 😁

Pre-Flight Check by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

A Rainbow Lorikeet* spreading its wings before settling back on the branch for a bit longer. Seen at the Fremantle Cemetery.

* I believe it is a Rainbow Lorikeet [Trichoglossus haematodus] but if you can confirm or otherwise that would be appreciated.

Have been busy so didn't get to post much lately. But I had some lucks with hummingbirds migration.

I tried my best to not disturb my subjects. I observed their behavior then just be there before they came back to that exact same place. They tended to accept my presence. They are truly a creature of habits allowing me to get these in-flight shots. I put file dimensions so that you get idea how far I was to the subject. I picked a few from each sequences. I will post more in-flight plus those close-up perched images.

That last shot is incredibly beautiful! The variety of colours and flower heads really adds to the overall joy.

Thanks. Here is a link to the video clip. You will see this female territory and she always flown back to that little flower. She either took off toward or away from me depending on the direction of another hummingbirds coming into her territory. I was very much less than 4 meters from her.

I have noticed the same with the 2 that were in a nearby garden. If you can manage to be pretty quiet and still and non-threatening, they seem to ignore you. I’ve even had one hover a few feet in front of my face and just zip on by. Fun creatures to watch, especially when they get in a mating ritual. Talk about an air show!

That's a beautiful bird. Very nice indeed.
The fence is very neatly constructed.
Job well done by the looks of it.
Yes, he is beautiful, I would love to get a picture of him in flight but he comes through so rarely. One day I was sitting out side when the various birds and squirrels started squawking very loudly and they scattered. A moment later there was a whoosh as the hawk flew through my yard not more than 10 feet in front of me. It was over in an instant. Still pretty neat!

Thanks for the fence compliment. It is new this summer. The only part I can take credit for is writing the check! I am very pleased with their work however 😄

Last week, on September 7, I encountered a bird similar to the one @BruceRH photographed. A young Cooper's hawk apparently. I first saw one very similar bird earlier in the year, outside of the city. But to see one while walking in the park with my mom along a busy trail in a big city was still unexpected. It didn't seem afraid of people, and I was able to get surprisingly close to it with my E-M1 II and 12-100mm F4.
