From the leg length and body size, I think it was a year old or younger GBH. There's a mostly vacant heron rookery about 1/4 mile away. I suspect the eagles found the bird already dead the feathers are really beat up and a fresh kill wouldn't look like that.
Thanks! Great action shoot!

Saw this poor bird in the park on Sydney foreshore a little while ago. The bird was very agitated with the hook in it's chest.
A few people tried to catch it to take to a rescue centre but failed. :frown:

I set up my iPhone 12 mini for these and used the remote shutter on my (ancient) Apple Watch. I've done this a few times now, and birds seem to pay no mind to smartphones.

So about 6 weeks ago we saw a single hummingbird hovering around some flowers in our backyard. I quickly filled a feeder and hung it from the corner of my shed (sure hope I don‘t decimate the entire hummingbird population with this feeder!!! 😁) and then started keeping an eye on it. I’ve checked the level every day or two, changed out the sugar water every 3 or 4 days, but never saw a single bird. Fast forward to today and I’m wrapping up cutting the grass out front when my wife walks out and all nonchalant mentions, “Oh, I saw a few hummingbirds at the feeder while you were on the mower.” Sheesh - she knows I’ve been anxious to see them! I quickly finished up and then planted myself on the patio with my camera while the grill warmed up for burgers. Took a while but eventually I was rewarded. Not the closest spot and not very good light for the 75-300 but I’m happy that they finally found the feeder. Hopefully I can get closer and brighter shots in the future.
