This is my daughter on her year 12 formal day. The whole year group go to a riverside location for the families to take photos. As you can see, I was battling full sun at 3 in the afternoon and not much shade.
Both shots taken with my E-M1 with Oly 12-60mm and FL-50R flash. Shot raw and edited in Luminar Flex. I was pretty happy with the quality considering the harsh conditions.

And fighting the light with more light is the right idea for that situation. I've taken to making sure the window screens for our car have a silver side, and when combined with what ever bag we have with us as a rest, they work well enough as reflectors in this kind of light.

Getting actual reflectors is more specialist than I want to go with my hobby but this dual purpose works and doesn't trigger any 'spent what? on something used how? often!'

Christmas photo, window light and a small light above head, black blanket behind. This one was actually with Panasonic 20mm, continued with oly45 later on but thought this p20 turned out great
