For a few years I've been trying to get to San Francisco's CNY parade. Unfortunately the parade has a history of rain. This got to the point the it was a joke in our office -- you could predict the weather weeks in advance by seeing when the parade was scheduled. Even during this driest year ever, the forecast was for 60% chance of rain. We had family visiting, so we decided to go and tempt the fates. I work a couple of blocks from the parade start, so we parked the car at work and setup right on the barriers about 2 blocks from the parade start. The crowd behind us was 3-4 deep and the newspaper reported that the crowd at Union Square, near the end of the parade, was 8+ deep. We only had 5 drops of rain while we stood there, but it rained lightly while we were in the car headed home. This is quite a parade - 17 marching bands, 24 floats and more dragons and lions than I could keep track of and one shopping card. Luck, of course, is a big part of the Chinese culture, so the local grocery chain, "Lucky", was a natural fit. The parade went for 2 hours, by which time we were kind of ready for it to be over. I was very happy to have the monopod to rest the camera on from time to time. G6 and 12-35 for all the shots.
