Schneider-Kreuznach has announced a new Super Angulon 14mm f/2 autofocus lens for Micro 4/3. In the nearly 100-year history of the company, Schneider Kreuznach has become known for many innovative lens designs.

According to Photoscala, the new lens will be available in the fall of 2012 and is expected to cost less than 1,500 EUR (~1,900 USD). With the far less expensive Olympus 12mm f/2 and Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 lenses on the market, the new German lens is clearly being introduced as a premium product and will need impressive performance to justify the price.

It's wonderful to see a top lens maker with this kind of history introducing an autofocus lens for Micro 4/3. Hopefully the new 14mm f/2 will be the first of many autofocus lenses from Schneider-Kreuznach for our system.

Update: According to Thom Hogan, the Super Angulon 14mm is one of three new Micro 4/3 lenses we can expect from Schneider in 2013.
