Getting my macro setup figured out, now all I need is a solid 3 axis focusing stage.
Salt crystals always make for interesting macros.
I must say though that your sensor is badly in need of cleaning. All those black specks aren't associated in any way with your salt crystals.
I wasn't sure if that was the lens or the sensor. They aren't even visible in the raw image, but it's so low contract there's no detail. I had to crank the contrast way up to get the brown streaks. I'm assuming that's iodine.

The halos around the specks would indicate that it's the sensor rather than the lens.
Most conclusive test would be to shoot a patch of daylight sky with a lens stopped all the way down and focused to infinity.
