Rural Shipping Costs

So I just ordered a black Panasonic 12-32mm lens through one of our affiliate links (I hope it worked).

At any rate, the company had my old shipping address on file, and it is in the city center. We now live in a more rural area, about 6 miles north of the city center. There was a 3 dollar difference in shipping for basic ground. I was surprised. So much so I went back and looked at a few other things recently and noticed that shipping did go up on some regular things we get shipped. In some cases, by as much a 3 dollars.

We are actually 2 miles from the UPS sorting and shipping facility.

We are are closer to the USPS main sorting facility for the city.

We are probably a good 8 miles farther out from the Fedex sorting facility.

I'm not sure how this lens is getting shipped just yet, but I just found it interesting.

It is sometimes cheaper to deliver to a business address than a residential address with UPS. So, you are not alone in getting the short end of the stick in your rural location.
