Roger Cicala: Field Curvature article

After reading this article, I realized one of my favorite lenses is probably tilted and curved as Roger suggests.

Doesn't stop me from using it in the least. Quite the opposite. I've grown a little accustomed to it and plan my images around it.

Truly a fascinating read.

I agree, field curvature isn't always a bad thing if you understand it, neither is distortion. Roger is a great technical writer, very readable.

Thanks for the update, these reminded me of a discussion of the ancient Canon EF 20 lens. Ken Rockwell's review says that the lens used "Intelligent Field Curvature" in the design, and that phrasing shows up at other sites but I cannot find it associated with Canon. Most folks agree it has strong field curvature, including some measurements on Optical Limits, and it's a love it or hate it sort of lens. Anyway, I wonder if some mu43 lenses are like that? I might take a couple of my lenses out into a field like Roger demonstrated...
