Hi All,

Was invited to a friends place for Riverfire fireworks. Fantastic vantage point! Used the Live comp on the EM1 for the first time and learnt a few things. Thought I would share.

Set the aperture and comp time with a couple of test shots in A mode to get the background exposed to my liking.

However needed to play around with the settings during the shoot to compensate for the sheer number of fireworks being set off and the resultant overexposure in certain areas.

You cannot focus when in live comp mode so focus in another mode (live time is fine)

Need to anticipate the fireworks much more than when using bulb mode to have the comp mode open only to record the bursts in the sky and avoid the trails.

Hate the smoke....

A big delay in between shots as the camera processes the previous shot......very annoying. Any idea if this delay can be reduced?? Would a faster card help??

Here are some photos from that evening: (CC welcome...still learning and do not get much chance to photograph fireworks)

You got some good results with the fireworks. It'd be interesting to see how the new E-M1 firmware does with such scenes.

It's not quite the same now that the Pigs don't fly, no major afterburner flame and the Hornets just aren't the same.

Nice to hear some feedback on the live comp mode. How do you compare it to using the other live modes, like bulb? I missed the fireworks (again) this year :(

It's a good mode to use once you understand it's quirks. The only negative to me when shooting fireworks is the delay between shots. A minor negative is the overexposure of the area where u have multiple bursts of bright light ( the barges from where they launch the fireworks). For star trails and car trails it should be great.
