reporters' gear, what is this stuff?

    I copied this image, it was from the scene of the lady they shot driving where she shouldn't have been (the White House) earlier this month. Anyway, it was interesting to see the press people showing up with their gear. Take a look at the guy on the left with the chest rig and the big camera holding the laptop. What the heck is all that stuff he's got attached to his Macbook Pro? I'm guessing a mobile Wifi antenna, maybe an external HD, and ??? Anybody have any ideas?

    My guess is wireless data attached to the side of MBP, voice recorder and external flash HDD attached by velcro on the back.

    Post-Script - looking again it looks like a Compact Flash reader and not a HDD.

    And you wonder why people are interested in smaller cameras???? Poor bugger having to schlep all that stuff just to be first.

    Another thought. With wifi starting to really make an appearance, next year the same dude could have an EM1 and a smartphone/tablet and get the same job done.....

    Yup, and the smartphone/iPhone can even serve as a voice recorder.
