I accidentally destroyed my 12-40mm's lens cap last weekend (see https://www.mu-43.com/index.php?threads/have-you-ever-dropped-your-camera.73500/page-3#post-742226 )...

Oly lists an LC-62D cap as "optional" for the 12-40mm, $13:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1003641-REG/olympus_v325624bw000_lc_62d_metal_lens_cape.html
based on the picture it looks like the original...

B&H lists the LC-62D for $10:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1003641-REG/olympus_v325624bw000_lc_62d_metal_lens_cape.html

Amazon lists it for $10 through Adorama:
http://www.adorama.com/IOMLC62D.html
http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-LC-62D-Front-Lens-12-40mm/dp/B00GDVHEW2

However the picture is totally different!

1. Can someone confirm the LC-62D is the original?

2. I remember another thread where someone was complaining about the cap and an alternative was recommended, but I can't find the thread... any other recommendations?

Thanks,
Barry

The one from B&H looks like the original. The one listed on Adorama does not. How they can both have the same part number is beyond me.

On the other hand, the inset releases on the original kind of bug me so I might just drop $10.00 on Amazon for the "other" one and see if it feels better. :)

Thanks for the inadvertent heads up.

Mine actually fell apart shortly after I got the lens. Nasty sharp metal edges when it came apart too. I don't like the new "pro" lens caps much, which seem to manage to be overengineered, flimsy, and heavy all at once. Agree about getting generic ones, I don't care much about whether my caps have the olympus logo or not.

On the inside of the original cap it says "LC-62D 62mm", so it looks like it's the one.

I notified Adorama and they replied with a very nice email apologizing for the incorrect photo of the cap on their website. They expect to have this corrected very soon.

yeah, i replaced my entire olympus lineup with generics.

prefer that they have a wide pinch and no logos
Would you mind sharing what "generic" brands are good? I too like the large edge pinch caps, the old Olympus center pinch style.

No logos would be a lot less conspicuous.

Hi, i just buy a bunch from overseas

http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20150219051331&SearchText=62mm+lens+cap

I bet they all come from the same (or 2 or 3 factories). I find a buyer with free shipping and request to buy multiple sizes at once for shipping convenience. (37, 46, 58, 62, etc).

I do the same for step-up filter adapters, to complete my kit all at once.

Takes like 2 to 3 weeks to come in the mail but it saves a few beers worth of $ :)

LC-62B is the center pinch Olympus lens cap like the photo lightmonkey posted. The few generic caps I have purchased seem to have a habit of popping off, $5.00 for the LC-62B is pretty inexpensive.

I've ordered the LC-62B from Amazon/Adorama, about $12 shipped (no prime on this item)... Should have it next week.

Thanks,
Barry

I don't know what the LC-62 A or C caps look like or even if they exist.

Just checked Adoramas' Ebay listing for the Olympus LC-62D lens cap and they are still showing the LC-62 lens cap!

The -D cap seems less likely to get knocked off accidently. With the -B cap, the outer release points can be hit as the camera brushes against your body.
