I just received my new Panasonic DMC-G5 and want to buy a remote shutter release for it like I had with my previous Nikon DSLR. I found 2 that will work with my G5, but can't figure out if either one of them have the capability to control zoom when in video mode. Here are the 2 that I found....

I could be way off base in thinking that either one will do this, but I figured I would ask first. I will still make the purchase regardless.

I have the Vello brand from B&H for my G3, and no it doesn't do zoom, neither does the Panasonic. They only do shutter. Full press and half press and it works like a charm - love it. Just make sure you have the plug fully inserted and you are good to go. Highly recommend.

Stay away from the high priced Panasonic, the only difference between the two is that the Panasonic has an angle plug.

For $9.95 you can't go wrong.

I picked this one up last week. Works great and build quality it actually better than I expected. And if it breaks? I can buy another one and still break even compared to the OEM wired release.

I've tested it from 40 feet away thus far, which honestly, is further than I prefer to be from my camera and its pricey f2.8 zoom lenses. Another plus is that it only uses AAA's, so no messing with button batteries like some other remotes use in the transmitter.

Very interesting STR. Thanks for the link. By chance, do you know if it will work with my G5?
