Red Bull air race

Been at a european stop of the championship - pretty cool stuff. The sky was overcast so half of the beauty got lost there, but anyway. Here are some pics of the acrobatic teams that introduced the event, the proper race pics hopefully tomorrow (still need to process them).

Some really great shots, I especially like the dakota!
A little prop movement would have improved them if it was possible (the longer shutter speeds required often need panning to keep the planes sharp, which doesn't work with a background).

@Petrochemist - this was my first time at an airshow and was so amazed at what I was seeing, I just put the camera in S and fired away. I agree it could be done better.

I've had several attempts at airshows, as well as years of practice at panning, and I doubt I'd have managed anything better!
The background very muchs limits your options on shutter speeds in most of these.

Thanks, you are too kind. Yes, one can't do much with the pics with the city in the background, but if I prepared properly and documented myself earlier on this kind of photography I could have tried more different things. For example, I now miss not having taken more photos panning with the e-shutter on, like Lartigue's "race car", or tried to some longer shutter speeds, blurring the planes, or of the people there...

Well, hope they'll be back next year...
