Anyone purchase "reconditioned" from Olympus website? I'm guessing it would be similar to purchasing from Cameta?

I've only purchased refurbished Olympus gear from Cameta, not directly form Olympus. I've had no problems with either of the two lenses I bought that way. Cameta will extend a one-year warrenty to Oly refurbs purchased through them. What does the Oly site offer?

I think the Olympus warranty is only 90 days, while Cameta usually adds their own 1-year warranty on top of that.

I purchased my "Tough" camera reconditioned from Olympus. Over a year old & still works fine.

Does Cameta refurbish them themselves? or is it direct from Olympus?

I bought a reconditioned EM-5 from Olympus. Shutter count was low, like around 60 clicks.

Like new other than the count? Any issues?

That's not bad at all, but the 90 day warranty does scare me a bit. I wonder how much it would be to protect it using a Squaretrade Warranty.

I would - if anything be - more comfortable with a reconditioned camera, the idea being that it was inspected by a human for specific problems and if found, those were fixed. (As opposed to one coming off the line). The downside is a shorter warranty period.

Like new; no issues. If it sucked in some way, I would have mentioned it.

I still have a refurb Pen Mini that was given to me by Olympus Canada. It's lasted me longer than any of the brand new bodies of the same model which I've bought from the same era.

In fact, since one of my much newer Minis had a bit of a malfunction on my last out-of-town trip (it's all fixed now), I actually consider my old refurb to be the most reliable and safest of the bunch.

Cameta's reconditioned Olympus stuff is factory recondtioned by Olympus. I've bought several things that way and never had a problem. Everything has been indistinquishable from new.

Tried dealing with cameta, had to send lens back three times, after that I gave up and bought new to avoid the hassle of trying it out, sending it back and repeat. Bodies may be a different story, but lens wise I'd never deal with cameta again! Refurb seems to mean send it out, and see if they notice it's screwed with regard to lenses. Would much rather deal with people here for used!!!

Can't say I've had the same experience. All the refurbed lenses I've received from Cameta have been just perfect.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I've had great success with Cameta in the past, no complaints at all. It seems that they've been sold out of bodies for quite some time which had me wondering about the Olympus site.

I got both 9-18 and 14-150 copies from Cameta refurbished. No problems. YMMV.

I bought a reconditioned E-PL2 kit from Olympus, and it was like new.

Got my omd from Cameta. Works perfectly fine. But selling a used refurbished camera is a pain in the ass. If you're planning to sell your camera body in the future, better buy a new one.
