All this talk about building a new PC has triggered my fantasy!
So here is kind of a maximum PC build I might maybe consider if I win the lottery!
What$Comment
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Processor
853
Started by looking at Threadripper CPUs, but at 185W TDP I thought it was too high.
Noctua NH-D15
105
Haven't tried liquid cooling, prefer Air, this is supposed to be the most effective Air cooler.
ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi)
582
Looked at MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE, but at 50% higher price it was too much.
Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 32GB (2x16GB)
448
DDR4 / CL19 / 4000 MHz / DDR4 SDRAM
Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB Gaming OC
515
This seems to be the sweet spot.
Samsung 980 Pro series SSD 500GB M.2 (MZ-V8P500)
201
Larger ones are coming but are not really avalable yet.
Fractal Design Define 7 / Solid - Svart / Vit
201
Just like it!
Fractal Design Ion+ Nätaggregat / 80 PLUS Platinum / 760 Watt / Svart
163
outervision.com/power-supply-calculator says 464W! So with 50% extra = 696W
Sum
3068
MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE
840
Alternate MB

Yes, I know it is total overkill for processing photos and surfing the web which is what I will use it for, but look how fast it will be!

So any comments?

X570 chipset √, but not sure why the wifi in a desktop rig The fast ethernet is more useful. And wait a couple weeks for the 980 pro 1tb M2. Better yet get 2 since that MB supports dual PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots to provide NVMe SSD RAID. That will smoke. And I think that the 1tb drives will be a bit faster than the 500gb. The RX 5700 XT is about $400 now but why not a GTX 1660 Super for nearly as good performance and a fair bit cheaper. Spend the extra $¢£ on the second M2. I personally don't spend any pesos on a chassis since people throw perfectly good ones out all the time with old computers.

I think the WIFI crept in there since I wanted Bluetooth on the MB.
I choose the 500GB M2 card since the 1TB was not available.
A second M2 SSD would certainly be on the horizon as soon as bigger drives are available.
The RX5700 XT because it is mentioned as working well with DxO PL4 and DeepPRIME NR.

This is a fantasy build and even if I am tempted to do it, it will not be soon. (Not until I win the lottery!)

X-post from the What did you buy this week thread.

Not in the same league as my maximum build above, but hopefully much faster then my current PC.

Would have liked to have the Fractal Design Ion Platinum PSU, but it is out of stock until February.
