What, exactly, is the difference between New and Recent Posts?
New posts only includes threads which contain posts which you have not yet read (new to you). Recent posts shows all threads with recent posts, regardless of whether you have read them.
@Amin Sabet, the site seems to be limiting the New Posts function to 4 pages/200 threads... can that be increased?
I believe that can be increased at the expense of memory and performance and would affect all search results, not just new / recent posts. Do you often find yourself wanting to scroll back more than 200 posts?
Hi, not very often, but I'm currently traveling (for the last 2 weeks) and have had very limited Internet connectivity and would like to catch up on the forum... it won't let me go back further than the 19th.
In my experience, MYSQL and some search engines (e.g. Sphinx) do not have much of an issue with paginated results.
The DB or search engine has to sort the entire result by date though, and sorting does use temporary memory briefly.
Another issue: Since the url change bookmarking "New Posts" does not refresh, i.e. when I click it I get cached pages I think. Have to click the button again to get the current page. Same with "Recent Posts".
doesn't work for me Barry I get the same result.
Hi, you'll need to copy the links manually and add bookmarks manually, instead of clicking them first.
Separate names with a comma.
