I have a newly home made rapid strap and a newly acquired flash. The flash is quite large (Zeikos fl70). Should I be worried about using the rapid strap with the flash on the camera?

Contrary to what a lot of people think, I wouldn't carry my camera around at any time with its weight on the tripod mount.

I'm not really worried about the strap or connection to the camera. It's the flash to camera connection that I don't know about.

As for the tripod mount. Have you heard of, or seen any fail?

I don't know what your flash is (I have an FL50R), but I might concerned with your homemade strap & connector compared to the Black Rapid Strap (or Quick Strap) as they are proven. I would use the Quick Strap (with Black Rapid connector & homemade plate) on my E30 with grip, 70-300 lens & flash (FL50R) with every confidence in it. So long as the flash is properly secured (with clamp & pin), it shouldn't be a problem.
