If you ever visit Death Valley this spot is a must to go see. However, to get there is not an easy task. From the main road, there is a stretch of dirt and rocky road to get there. It's about 26 miles. It took us about 3 hours to make it.

[1] View of the Playa from the top of the free campground that you can spend the night there.

[2] Got lucky to get some burn in the morning...my travel companions were too tired to drive the 3 miles from campground to the track to catch sunrise there :)

[3] When you walk around the "track" you see strange thing like a rock in the middle of nowhere and tracks behind them as if some force pushed them

Did I mention that it's very hot? Lucky us when we were there it's only about 100ºC...the next coming days it was forecasted to be more that 110ºF every day

    Great series!

If you are open to opinion, #5 the -ve exposure gradient for the sky feels a little too dark to me. I'm guessing you are trying to draw attention to the foreground and rock, but IMO doesn't quite feel right.

I hope not, for your sake. Or if you really did put up with 100°C, then I don't won't to mess with you! You can expect a visit from Nick Fury pretty soon. ;)

Beautiful photographs. Thanks for the pictures and the story. I didn't realize it was that remote, but I guess it's a good thing, otherwise someone would be out there cutting donuts with their jeep.

These are beautiful shots of an amazing place, but I will pass on the visit & stick to looking at your photos. ;)
I had to read up about the 'sailing rocks' & it is interesting. The theory of the melting sheets of ice being blown along & carry the rocks sounds pretty plausible, with the rough bottom rocks going in a straight line with the wind & the smooth bottom rocks doing the wandering.

Excellent series of photos. Very beautiful.
My friend and I was there in 2009 with our crappy digital cameras and of course we had no idea what we were doing as photographers.
So excuse the bad pics I am showing here.
But I want you to see these things.

One thing you didn't mention was how huge some of these rocks were that moved across the ractrack.
    Check this one out!
    DSC02411.JPG

Also, that day in the summer of 2009 there were some very weird things on the racetrack.
We saw a strange bird drawing in the track.
It might have been done by someone or natural forces might have made it, or perhaps spirits?
    DSC02400P.
Here is a closeup of the face.
    _MG_0742.JPG

We also saw a series of weird dinosaur like tracks in the racetrack leading off into the mountains.
These tracks were angled and looked like some creature was hopping across the racetrack.
But here is the scary part: Each tack was about 15 inches long!

LOL...I used too much to Celsius even after living 20 years plus in the US...So I was trying to convert in my head 40ºC but keep writing C instead of F :) Thank you @rfortson@rfortson.

Yes @Steven@Steven Torquiest some of them are huge...I think I saw that same rock without an track around it. According to one video I saw those rock move only in winter when there are rain and very cold at night for it to be frozen and when it melt that's when it move the rock.
