I have a new GX9. I also have a GX1 and a Leica Q, and both have a leather half case. Does anybody go "Commando", that is without a case of some type and/or a hand grip. While my two rangefinder types have half cases, my two Nikons do not. Just curious if anybody uses a half case or a grip. I really like to keep my equipment in good shape. Thanks.

GX85 owner here- the JJC grip is really helpful for one-handed photo walk scenarios. Just curl the fingers and relax a bit. Downside is that the solid arca plate feature is let down by the single piece of rubber meant to secure the grip to the camera bottom. It acts as a fulcrum for the body to wobble when mounted on a tripod, even with the thumbscrew tightened down. Not a huge deal, but limits the supposed handheld to tripod transition to shorter/lighter lenses. Haven’t found a material to add to it yet that’s grippy but not too thick.

Anyway it’s a good, low-profile grip, not as deep as the one pictured above. B&H sells it as the Vello CG-GX9.

I don’t get the half-case idea, just seems like it gets in the way and adds weight. Really wish there were a vinyl skin kit available. Smallrig used to sell a cage for GX9 (and another for GX85) that pops up on aliexpress and eBay sometimes. That is easily the most protective, although not shock-absorbent.

Aki-Asahi is a very small producer of custom leather kits for some cameras. He doesn’t list the GX9 yet, but he may do it on request. Had a thicker leather kit on another small camera, and it was top-notch, took a beating well and really helped with grip. http://www.aki-asahi.com/store/

I don't think the GX9 needs a grip, it needs a thumb rest. With that, it's very nice to hold!
I purchased a cheap one of ebay and "massaged" it with a hammer to fit the GX9.

I have the JJC grip and a Fuji long thumb rest on my GX80. What a difference it makes. PD QR plate clips into everything else.
