    Hello,

    How are you?
So, after much and much debate on the forums and some big mental debate on my part on which telephoto to get, I pulled the trigger on a 100-300 from Panasonic.

Got my hands on the lens today.
After unboxing it, I assembled it on my small E-PL2.

My first impression is that the lens is lighter than in seems.
The balance on the E-PL2 is not that weird.
The hood fits in place firmly. The zoom ring is smooth and the lens doesn't extend when the camera is facing down.

Here is the lens on my E-PL2.

With the hood reversed and on 100mm:
    vSQ6k.

With the hood in place and on 100mm:
    A0Y9C.

With the hood reversed and on 300mm:
    eshZ8.

With the hood in place and on 300mm:
    nwBYc.

    Another one:
    j6LnH.

So, this is my telephoto setup. I don't have a EVF and will try to shoot with the LCD. Let's see how it goes.

    Cheers!

After getting some time with the lens in the house, I went out to try it out.
Today the light is really bad!
35Âșc here in Lisbon with a really bad sun to shoot pictures.
I was eager to try out the lens, so I went out and did some first test shots.
Since I didn't want to go very far, I drove to the airport to catch some planes.

    Here are two shots:

    yMrrO.

    k0Lck.

It was so hot, that heat waves were coming off the tarmac, so the pictures are not with great sharpness. The conditions were not ideal, but I just wanted to get a feeling of shooting a 300mm lens in sunlight while using the LCD to frame the shots.

It is difficult, but not impossible. With some practice, I guess I can skip on the VF-2 until Panasonic announces the G5 and GH3... :)

When I was trying out a the lens, a small bird appeared. Good opportunity:

    JVeLN.

    W4UgO.

Anyway, these are just the first tests. So far I am happy with the AF Speed of the lens on the E-PL2.
The balance of the lens is good. The IQ looks good so far...
Will go out again tomorrow for some more tests and to get some practice at telephoto shooting.

    Cheers!

Some good shots - nicely done with any telephoto, though I found the Oly 75-300 more to my liking over the Lumix 100-300 I was trialing.

Did you use Oly IBIS or did you use the OIS on the lens? (Certainly not both.) I have heard that this lens 100-300 OIS is better to use than the Oly body IS.

    Hi,

    Thanks.
I switched off the IBIS and used the OIS on the lens.
I haven't tried the other way around yet...

    Cheers!

    It was pretty small.
Luckily it was also pretty close. :)

    Cheers!
