Federal Hotel {001} - Australian Heritage Sites by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

A large three-storey hotel building, constructed in 1887 of stuccoed brickwork. Designed by architect G I Inskip. The original verandahs over the pavement did not survive.

The chaste Victorian Classical revival architectural character is important. Notwithstanding the loss of the original verandahs over the pavement, of greater significance is the contribution the building makes to the Victorian streetscape of the west end of the city and, in particular, in relation to the Town Hall opposite and to the commercial premises which extend around the corner and into High Street. A building whose presence reinforces the surviving Victorian character of the very centre of the city where Town Hall, Church and commercial premises combine to produce a significant and cohesive townscape.

The Federal Hotel traded for approximately 20 years as Rosie O'Grady's but returned to its original name, The Federal Hotel in January 2016.

Interesting! Although Cal's was built in the '30s during the booze hayday,

Cal's had a slightly more fitting (to the bar) motto...
"Eat, Drink, Get the Fuck Out!"

Was also on tee shirts...will post pic of one I acquired one summer day, before the C-19 culling began.

Ah, thank you, that does make more sense now! The legal drinking age in Oz is 18, but we have far fewer pubs than we did in the early settlement era - our village, population 100, once had 3 pubs, and the population wouldn't have been hugely greater.

Age/sex discrimination illegal in "Amerika," slainte!

This is the Dial Inn, in the village of Lamphey, near Pembroke.
The building itself is Georgian, but only became a pub in the 1960's.

I don't know if it still is, but it used to be the unofficial headquarters of the Pembroke Company of Archers. ?

Although it's just had a new paint job to the exterior, it's full of olde-world charm with many old maritime charts and photographs.
The following photos show part of the interior, taken a few years ago as part of a "Pirate Walk" during the annual Fishguard Folk Festival.

Yes, it does appear to be - good spot.
Perhaps it is to signal that the building is occupied ! (like they used to do in the RN to signal when a vessel had been captured)

This is a common error and it drives me nuts -
I also get bent when a chess set is set up the wrong
way in photos -
I am in obvious need of help!

If you look at the bottom of the flag - against the flag pole - the red stripe should not be above the corner, or in the middle of the corner - but below - as per the picture below. The thicker part of the white stripe above and the thinner part of the white stripe below.

In the old days of wooden warships - if a Man Of War had been boarded the crew would hang the flag upside down so as to warn their fellow ships that they were no to be approached as they were in enemy hands.
