Snapshot of the sign at the door of Blinman Hotel, Flinders Ranges. I heard from the bar tender that Covid has created greater tourist custom, with Aussies travelling locally instead of heading off on overseas holidays, but more stress with no international travellers available as casual staff, which many tourism businesses relied upon.

Royal Mail Hotel, Meekatharra by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

One reviewer described it as their ‘worst nightmare’ but I think that was a touch harsh. It is Meekatharra after all.

The Meekatharra Shire Council heritage listing of the Royal Mail Hotel describes it thus:

‘Royal Mail Hotel demonstrates significant social significance as one of several hotels in Meekatharra providing continued hospitality. The strong presence in the main street gives the place landmark qualities.’

That I would suggest sums it up well.

Andrew, a real typical country pub from yesteryear!
"Clean basic rooms and pet friendly! "
So no problems using Number 1 Sheep Dog as a foot warmer at the end of the bed!!

Ghost town Hammond Hotel. I'm pretty sure this was the hotel in the filming of western dystopian The Rover, with Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson.

Those two pubs are such beautiful Aussie architecture.
Can't someone grab them and put life back into them,
Love the Yarrowie painted sign on its facade.
Beautiful stonework.
You've captured them very well.

Don't worry about those silly little numbers, you're doing well without them :)

They're lovely old buildings, but obviously they require a lot of money and skilled labour to keep them at their best. Certainly, that's what I hear from our local publican!

Thanks for your encouraging words, Richard - I did notice that the numbers on these photos were a match for those suggested by John for the other photo! I'm a P shooter usually (although I do switch to Aperture or Shutter priority sometimes), as I can't really think about numbers when I'm shooting - I think there's a link missing from my neurology where that's concerned.

Commercial Hotel, Meekatharra by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

The Commercial Hotel was established between 1907-1915 and is characterised by some fine stonework and pressed metal (tin) ceilings. Today it is apparently the best accommodation in Meekatharra if the reviews are anything to go by.

Taken right before the covid hit the fan. Fun spot (even if it is a little "hipster-ish"). I saw Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats here, before they made it big. I'm so glad this place survived the pandemic — so many of my favorite places did not.
