If you look at the bottom of the flag - against the flag pole - the red stripe should not be above the corner, or in the middle of the corner - but below - as per the picture below. The thicker part of the white stripe above and the thinner part of the white stripe below.Excuse my thickness - how can you tell if it's upside down? - looks symmetrical to me . . .
In the old days of wooden warships - if a Man Of War had been boarded the crew would hang the flag upside down so as to warn their fellow ships that they were no to be approached as they were in enemy hands.
