In the last couple of months I have been photographing pay phones. The idea came when I was talking with a fellow shooter about getting a new personal project going. In recent years pay phone locations have been reduced. I read that at one point there were around 45,000+ pay phones in Manhattan and that has been dwindled down to about 12,000... So while on a few photowalks of downtown L.A. i started photographing pay phones in there current state. Plus adding a bit of our creative processing twist to the image.

Here are a few of the images from my project along with a link to the Flipboard Magazine I have created that will curate these images on Flipboard.

The target area right now is Southern California and any other city I visit. Here is the link to my Flipboard Magazine - http://flip.it/76EYb

Wow... that is a really great idea for a project. They will all be gone in 5 years I guess.

BTW according to the NYC telecommunications department there are only 5,200 payphones left in Manhattan.

And even that figure might be too high. The company that bought Verizon's payphone business removed 1,000 pay phones recently because they didnt have a dial tone and they are subject to a US$2,500 fine for every payphone that doesnt have a dial tone.
