Best price I've seen yet on what has become my favorite lens for our system.

Looks like Amazon and Adorama are matching this price:

I just saw that Amazon has a gold box deal for $475 right now. Not sure how long it will last...

Do you have a link to that? The only $475 one I see on Amazon is used, and I don't see this lens on the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=amipho-20">Gold Box page</a>[IMG]

Hmmm. When I view it it at Amazon.com: Panasonic H-X025 Lens: Camera & Photo it shows on the right the Gold Box symbol and says "This item is available at a discount for a limited time." When you click that it shows
    Panasonic H-X025 Lens
Panasonic Lumix G Micro 4/3 LEICA DG.... read more

    $599.99 $474.99 (21% off)

Could it be only a targeted discount for me?

OK sorry about that, it looks like it might be a targeted deal for me based on my purchase/browsing history at Amazon. Here is their explanation. Unfortunately I already own this lens...

    Quick Picks
Every day, your Quick Picks will feature a new set of items selected specifically for you, accompanied by an additional savings coupon. You must be signed in with your customer account to see the deals, and you may only purchase one Quick Pick item per day, so be sure to review the items carefully. You must click the "Add to Cart" button on the Gold Box page to be eligible for the Quick Picks coupon. Once you add one of the items to your Cart, you have 60 minutes to complete the checkout process before the additional savings coupon expires. The coupon savings will display on the final order confirmation page under "Order Summary." The coupon for the other items automatically expires after you've selected one to add to your Cart.

Other than autofocus speed how is this lens better than the 20mm? I've read that the 20 is sharper overall. Is it really worth trading up? It does fit a bit better between the 14 & the 45 but I need a better reason to switch.

Now, now RevBob. We are talking less than $100 per mm for an upgrade! Deals like this do not come along every day now. Do you need a better reason than that?

In all seriousness, if you shoot video, I believe that the 25mm may be a bit more quiet when focusing. I don't have the 20, but I must say that somehow the 25 spends a lot of time on my camera bodies, probably followed by the 45. The focus speed was what sold me on the 25mm over the 20mm, as well as availability. I still have interest in the 20, but my wallet is still recovering from a variety of other expenses, so no new lenses for now.

    Good luck,

I think my 20 is a sharper lens, but both are plenty sharp.

That's my dilemma - I'm not convinced that it's enough of an upgrade. It's a bit faster, but the 20 is smaller and has better edge sharpness - especially wide open. I may go for the Rokinon 7.5 instead and just keep my 20.

IMHO PL25 is sharper than P20. I sold my P20 at last.

PL25 is sharper than P20. And focuses faster and more quietly. And has smoother bokeh. But if I had just one lens for a m4/3 camera, I'd choose the P20, because it's more versatile.

$500 is a better price but still higher than I think it should be. I think they are adding an extra $100 or so just for the Leica name. Lord knows Lieca adds $1000 to their lenses just because of their name.

I don't think of it as an upgrade. It's a very different lens to me, though. 25mm is (to me) very different than 20mm, and the shallow DOF possibilities with 25/1.4 are much more often than with 20/1.7.

To me, it's not overpriced. I've spent as much or more on many normal lenses for many systems, and this is one of my favorites from amongst them.

The 25mm has better color and contrast than the 20, and I've never seen the color fringing on the corners with it like I have w/the 20, which can be infuriating with certain shots.

I gave in to GAS and bought one on EBay. The 25mm fits better between the 14mm and the 45. The 14 still gives me a pancake and I have the new body cap lens on order. Looks like I'll be selling my 20mm.

Congrats Bob...and good luck with the new lens.
As I'm sure you've gathered, most of the differences between it and the P20 tend to be subtle, but, as is often the case subtle differences can mean a big difference to ones eye.

One more thing....don't be afraid to shoot that baby wide open....it's lovely big aperture is VERY useable indeed even a f1.4 and a real joy to use.
