Is it possible to do this with the MFT lenses (20mm, 17mm, 14-45mm)? Say I want to pre-focus my lens at around 10 ft for street shooting and have the camera lock on that focus and not change even if I accidentally turn the lens' focus dial?

The ep1 has a function setting that allows you to prefocus your lens using the ael/afl button for focus and then your shutter button will only be for taking the exposure and picture. Cool? thats the way mine is set up. the function is in wheel setting, button/dial, /ael/afl, then hit no.3.

Then all you do is prefocus to a spot and your good to go...just click. Hope I havent confused you. And I hope this is what youre looking for.....cheers

Also, set the lens reset to no. So if the camera goes off, the last focus distance stays.

i have the ep1 mapped the same way i can find focus distance with the back button and use the top shutter to expose and shoot , no more hunting for the same subject distance over and over when it isnt necessary

Thanks! I didn't bring my camera today, battery was out. Can't wait to go back and try it out.

@pete using the approach you detailed, does rotating the focus lens still affect the focus? this is also what I'm trying to avoid, accidentally getting the lens out of focus.

ah...just make sure you select the s-af option on the back dial.... the focus ring does not work in that mode
    cheers

@pete oh, I get it now!

    So what I'll do is:

    0. Pre-focus my lens to my target distance
    1. Set AEL/AFL to trigger autofocus
    2. Set the shutter to just do exposure locking and shutter release
    3. To get back AEL, I'll just set it to the Fn button
    4. Switch back to S-AF so the lens ring doesn't change the focus distance

    Genius!

How do you set AEL to autofocus? Sorry, I'm still learning the ropes.

    set to mode 3

Done the settings mentioned here though the Fn key can't be set to do exposure locking.

I really love this setup as it takes me away from worrying about my camera settings and I get to just focus on what's around me!
