Installations older than about five years ago always look like they were designed by committee or built in random segments:

This is part of the 500kV Tehachapi Renewable Transmission system, which transmits power generated from wind farms, etc., in the Grapevine to the LA area.
The system was very controversial in some cities as the transmission towers are gigantic, and there wasn't enough room for this type of tower through some neighborhoods, leading to a new tower design with no footprint (see picture at https://www.scpr.org/blogs/environm...ies-commission-ends-6-year-battle-undergroun/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tehachapi_Renewable_Transmission_Project) to fit in a narrow easement between backyards.
This lead to lawsuits against SCE, asking the lines to be routed elsewhere or run underground. The court ordered the latter.

At left is the 'transistion station' where the 500kV lines submerge.
Out of sight, out of mind.

Much as I love electricity, power lines offend me aesthetically. According to the IEEE in around 1950-60, it is always cheaper to put power lines underground! And FAR safer ...

Some 'aesthetically pleasing' power lines ...
