    Post-Processing Challenge #461

The RAW and JPG files are here - Dropbox - PhotoChallenge - Simplify your life

This Challenge will close in three days at 10:00 PM Sydney Australia Eastern Standard Time, Friday, April 19th.

    72-Hour Post-Processing Challenge Rules

    1. The Challenge Master provides an image or images to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
    2. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
    3. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge.
    4. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and Runners-up.
    5. The Winner of the challenge is honoured as the Master of the next Challenge.
    Notes:

    • Any/all source images used for the challenge must be the Challenge Master's own images. They are posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge; not to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original image.
    • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
    • Entrants are strongly encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
    • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
    • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the next Runner-up.

Adjustments in perspective, white balance, colours, midtones, 3:2 cropping, reducing noise and sharpening, all with PS and LR.
But here I have the impression, that those two tools alone do not really lead to a satisfying result. I'm sure the DXO, NIK and ON1 people can do better ;)

Another nice photo. Edited raw file in DXO (minor adjustments and tweaks), then in Elements (further tweaks, dodged the two statues at the entrance on the right, burned slightly the face the man with the white jacket on the left), and cropped.

I straightened the verticals, did some burning and dodging and enhanced the green trees in back with HSL luminance and saturation.

I used the Topaz impression paint for a different look.

  10. Entry #2: vertical crop from an HDR made with Aurora, noise reduction, high pass sharpening (same settings as first entry). Look at the detail in the womans face and the bright leaves in the distance: much more definition than my first entry. Effect of HDR rendering in Aurora???

  19. Alright finally got around to judging, very hard with so many great entries.
Winner - Rob Rider #1 entry - It captures the early morning mood that I remember.
1st runner up - BosseBe #2 - Also good morning mood.
2nd runner up - Ted #1 it has the mood, an interesting portrait format and also some effort taken to remove "Starbucks" and other advertising.
3rd runner up - Richard C very interesting treatment, format and B&W approach.
    Thanks everyone! Cheers, Rob
