    Welcome to Challenge 279.

I am showing off my 1 day old new addition to the family for this one :) It was a great excuse to go for a ride today to find a spot for a photo for the challenge.

    Please have fun.

This Challenge will close at Wednesday evening Australian Eastern time.

    72-Hour Post-Processing Challenge Rules
    1. The Challenge Master provides an image or images to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
    2. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
    3. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge.
    4. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and a Runner-up.
    5. The Winner of the challenge is honored as the Master of the next Challenge.
    • The image used for the challenge must be the Challenge Master's own image. The image is posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge; it is not posted to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original image.
    • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
    • Entrants are strongly encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
    • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
    • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the Runner-up.

Like other entries, I wanted to crop in on the bike, but the focus seemed to be somewhere between the bike and the tree behind it. So I spent most of my time sharpening the bike and blurring the background, and a bit of effort recovering shadow detail. Used DxO to process the DNG, Gimp for everything else, and Silver Efex for the B&W conversion.

I combined sharpening in PSCC with cropping and some brushwork and radial filters in LRCC, aiming to draw the eye to the main subject.

And I thought my favourite soft mono look might work here too:

First to @torsteinh for what is to me just a stunning effort, just looks like the bike was green screened in the original photo.

Second to Lyle for the B/W... didn't realise when i posted that image the focus point was quite that far back which added to the difficulty

Third to Vorlon1 again for the B/W.... I'm pleasantly surprised how well the image works as a B/W

Cheers and thanks to everyone for the wonderful efforts

Thank you! It was good fun! And I have to thank dbuckle as well. His version set me on the idea.
