This Challenge will close at midnight, Seattle local time, Friday, October 7, 2016.

    72-Hour Post-Processing Challenge Rules
    1. The Challenge Master provides an image or images to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
    2. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
    3. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge.
    4. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and a Runner-up.
    5. The Winner of the challenge is honored as the Master of the next Challenge.
    Notes:
    • The image used for the challenge must be the Challenge Master's own image. The image is posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge; it is not posted to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original image.
    • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
    • Entrants are strongly encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
    • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
    • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the Runner-up.

Had a lot of fun with this one. Went for a cinematic feel (if the black bars didn't make that obvious).

Lightroom: Exposure down, add film simulation (VSCO Film O-Porta 160 +++), play with curves, split tone (cool highlights, warm shadows), play with white balance, add grain

Photoshop: extend canvas to the right, mask out bigfoot, add tilt-shift effect to background, crop and add black bars for 21:9

I hope everybody had fun playing with this. I am really happy with the results!

I was looking for two things in the winning entries. First was visual impact -- did it grab my eye. Second was a graphic style in keeping with the surrealism of the mythical subject and the satirical elements of his attire. I think most of the entries succeeded on one or both of these criteria.

It was a difficult choice, but I am selecting @AussiePhil@AussiePhil for his hyper-realistic close-up as the winner. Phil, that thing looks almost 3-D!

    Barry's delightfully grainy B&W is the runner-up.

Honorable mentions to Dave's "Wild Side", Nathanael's "B" horror flick, rloewy's "hallucinations", protapic's B&W, and dlpruk's head shot. Nice job to everyone!

    Thanks for hosting.
Fyi, I used Nik Silver Efex (now free) for the grainy B&W effect.
It's important to resize the image first or the grain is affected.

That grain, plus the contrast and the great use of vignette to frame the subject made it pop for me.

Thanks Lyle, I enjoyed processing that image, it wasn't what I initially intended but when I zoomed in to do something got that view and was blown away by the look and it went from there :)
    Cheers
