On the streets of Thailand one late afternoon with the rather antiquated Olympus EP1 and 17mm F2.8 lens. This is my preferred set up for street photography, as it is rather inexpensive and reasonably compact with sufficient handling. The lens is zone focussed at F8.0 and variable ISO range is set to keep the shutter speed high enough for freezing most subjects. At times, the metering on the EP1 is less than perfect and this is one of those shots that was taken quickly and is well below perfect. Hopefully the PP experts here can make something of this.

    The Rules:

The Challenger will provide any photo that he/she deems worthy of challenging other members to "improve" by way Post Processing. It must be their own photo. "Improve" is a subjective term, and includes many creative ideas as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenger agrees that entrants may make any changes they deem fit to post in their entry.

The winner of the previous challenge gets to post the next Challenge and serves as the judge for his/her PP challenge.

For obvious purposes, the judge is disqualified from participating in his/her own PP challenge. Instead, he/she should post a photo to start out the challenge.

***** If the winner fails to post a new challenge within five days, the responsibility passes to the runner-up. *****

At the end of the 72-hours (we don't have to be strict about 72-hours, especially with time differences depending on where you are on the globe), the judge will name a winner, a first runner-up, and a second runner-up.

    ----------------------------------------------

    Entrants:

The Challenger's image is posted for the sole purpose of the PP Challenge; it is not posted to invite Critique or Criticism.

Entries shall be limited to 2 per member for each Challenge.

Entrants to post a BBCode link to the Large size image of their PP edit(s), preferably 1024px x npx, or npx x 1024px, if the original image and/or the PP edit allow for these sizes. Also a click-through to the original sized hosted edit if appropriate (but not a requirement for entry). If you post your entry to a photo-hosting site such as Flickr, Photobucket, or a Gallery, etc., please credit the original photographer to make it clear it is not your photograph; something like "Photo taken by xxxxxx over at Mu-43.com" should suffice.

Entrants are strongly encouraged to post the settings and techniques used for their entry, however this is not a requirement for entry.

As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We may not all agree with the chosen winners, but the judges decision is final without adverse comment from the Entrants; the judge is encouraged (but not required) to state what criteria he used to decide on a winner.

To make sure we don't break any Mu-43 rules/regulations, by participating in the PP Challenge you are allowing the judge to re-post your image for the sole purpose of announcing the winners in the thread.

Somewhat abstract processing, that emphasizes a man in contemplation.....oblivious to his surroundings.

This was definitely not an easy decision, as there were many quality results that portrayed the image in different ways with high quality presentation. Although the image was taken in recent times, I always considered the image represented a past era along a coastline, where this elderly gent was just sitting, pondering what he would do for the remainder of his day. The irony was, that not 10m behind him was a busy esplanade that was full of market sellers and others selling anything and everything, including their own bodies.

The photo was taken near dusk and therefore the ISO was up at 800 in the EP1. Most would realise that ISO 800 on the original 12MP sensor is pushing things, especially when the metering was not accurate. Having said that, some of the PP results are excellent and the possible halos around the main subject are mostly well controlled. Some of the arty presentations are wonderful and it is a shame that there were not several different categories to select winners from (monotone, faded colour and art)

I originally considered that a monotone outcome would be the best for this image, but having seen the variations, my ideas have changed.

1st place - bigboysdad #2 - the colours in this image closely represent the actual shooting conditions and the overall effect has a vintage look about it, without over-emphasising things. The conditions were hazy and there was a large amount of fine dust in the air that was reflecting and blocking some light.

2nd place - siftu #7 - the warmth of this image is wonderful and is accurate in replicating the sky colours that can be seen at sunset in this coastal region of Thailand. The crop works well and the main character in the image is a little sharper and therefore highlights the subject.

Thank you again to all participants for your entries. Although there can only be one winner, there were many quality results that deserve high praise. Congratulations again to bigboysdad for the winning entry.

Argh! I did miss it (been busy working). Apologies everyone. And thank you very much Sokar for voting me 1st and to siftu for posting the reminder. I'll put up the next image for PP in the next 6 hours or so.
