So we've just had a lot of lens announcements at Photokina:

    • Olympus: 15/8, 17/1.8 and 60/2.8
    • Panasonic: 42.5/1.2, 150/2.8 and 35-100/2.8
    • Schneider: 14/2.0, 30/1.4, 60/2.4
    • SLR Magic: 23/1.7, 25/0.95, 35/0.95, 35/1.4
    • 'Big Photo': 15/2.4 shift

    That's 14 lenses, 13 of them primes!

Several long-standing complaints about the m4/3 line-up seem to have been addressed:

    • quality 35mm EFL lens (with AF) - 17/1.8
    • semi-affordable macro - 60/2.8
    • fast portrait prime - 42.5/1.2
    • 'event' zoom - 35-100/2.8
    • fast long telephoto prime - 150/2.8

So do the newly announced lenses take care of you for the foreseeable future? Or are you waiting for the next big show (PMA)? And if so, what are you hoping for? Cheers,

Still hoping for ports of the E system's 12-60/2.8-4 and 50-200/2.8-3.5 lenses. In spite the loss in speed, these to me are more useful FOVs than the Panny offerings.

Well, some of those lenses will not be here for a long time. The Panasonic 14mm and 150mm said 2013 to 2014. That is a long time... I would not expect something beyond that for at least three years from now.

I'm still waiting for a shift lens, a 14mm 1:4 shift would really make my day. And I'd love to have something like a 20-70mm 1:4; together with the 7-14/4 that would be enough to cover almost anything.

The 60 macro and 35-100 are all I want.

Generally speaking - yes (check signature).

But to be greedy, then I would add the M. Zuiko 75-300 & upcoming M. Zuiko 17mm ƒ1.8

Now that I have options for macro, I'll be shopping for one in the new year.

Also looking forward to reviews on the Schneider lenses, and perhaps the Pan150 one day.

I still voted "not quite" because I still feel there are gaps. Only one fast telephoto...another UWA would be great (a prime?)...otherwise I'm quite content with what we have.

Well, there was the 15/2.4 rumored on the German website that I included (hmm... haven't seen an announcement yet - wonder what that means?).

Yeah, I've seen that too, but for some reason I'm not too confident it will happen. Unknown supplier, no other announcements, f/2.4 wide open may compromise performance. From earlier experience I know that a lens has to be damn good to support shift and remain acceptably sharp and distortion-free, let alone the colour balance that can get progressively cooler towards the corners (the PC-Nikkor 28/4 comes to mind, although I really loved that lens).

The option of a Canon EOS-M with the T/S 17/4 is an alternative, albeit a big, heavy and expensive one.

    This. ^^^^

But the major issue is waiting for lenses to actually ship vs being just announced. It'd be fortunate if :43: companies announced lenses they're going to be shipping in the next 2 to 5 months, instead of 18 months down the road...

Yes, I'm also waiting for the 12-60. Well, I'm not exactly waiting - I'm shooting with the old one. But it would be reaaallly nice to have something that was a little faster and could focus on moving subjects!

That's a good point. And if this is all that's shipping in 2013, I don't think that would be good. Still, we've asked for a roadmap for sometime, so it's nice to get a bit of that.

What I'm still waiting for is a telephoto prime somewhere in the 150-300mm range and F/4 or better, plus a fast 25mm pancake. I might be set with those 2.

The telephoto is my big want. Shooting birds with the 75 and cropping is so much nicer than struggling at F/5.6 with my 40-150 as far as handling and exposure goes but cropping can only go so far.

As for the 25mm pancake, that's simply a small volume convenience want. I've got the PL 25 and love it, but it's a big lens and neither of my bodies fits in my go anywhere shoulder bag with it mounted. I use the 17mm pancake when I want to throw a camera in the shoulder bag or take the 25mm and use a larger bag but I like the 25mm focal length and would like to be able to throw the camera with a 25mm mounted into the smaller bag as a carry-around option.

On the first part, I'm *this* close in finding a good FT example myself. It's a "what you need WHEN you need it" thing. I see people celebrating the GH3 "release" (and I'm sure it will be a fantastic camera) forgeting it will probably be available aroung Christmas in most places.

On the second part, you can't beat the Sony lens roadmap. Sony chose to avoid confusing information, such as actual focal lenghts, apertures, and the like. This is the way to do it. Why bombard potential customers with useless bits of info?:biggrin:

Am I the only one waiting for the once rumoured short tele pancake? Something like 35mm f/2.8 no bigger than 20mm would be great addition IMO.

Along with the 12-60 and 25, I would really be thrilled and set with a new 50-200.

Think I'll trade my 45/1.8 for the 60 macro.

I hope the 150/2.8 won't be too expensive

I am disappointed there were not more third-party lenses announced from lower cost manufacturers such as Samyang.
