Hi all, Happy new year 2017 . Just share my portrait work when using m4/3 system since 2012(before that I'm a Nikon DSLR user). I use E-M5 with 45 F1.8 and PL25 F1.4 for my first portrait, they are both very good lens are small and crazy sharp.
Now I'm using EM-1 , 714 F2.8 , 12-40 F2.8 , 40-150 F2.8 Olympus 25 F1.2 PRO , 75 F1.8 , and Panasonic Leica 42.5 F1.2 for my portrait work.

First time using M4/3 for portrait

in 2016 ,I bought the 25mm F1.2 pro and 42.5 F1.2 . they are all my favorite lens. especially the 25 F1.2 pro. the best 50mm I have used. The rendering and quality of background blur are stunning .I use it 80% of my portrait shots .

During mainly using M4/3 system, I had own the Sony A7mkii with Zeiss batis 85mm and small prime for portrait. But I sold the sony gear for upgrade my M4/3(funding the 25 F1.2 and 42.5 F1.2)
A7MKII was very good camera with the full frame sensor. The main reason for I choose the Olympus (which with 2 time smaller sensor) over Sony. Because the skin tone and focus speed cannot match my E-m1. The skin tone sometimes will be greenish. It force me do a lot of work on post process to make sure the skin tone look nicer..
I didn't use the Sony a lot to my portraiture.. They are some but you can see that's not huge different compare with using m4/3 and ultra fast primes
Sony A7MKII and FE 28 F2

I really like the first A7ii with FE50 shot. but the rest of the Sony shots don't really impress me all that much. The colour signature of the M4/3
s are generally nicer imo. Beautiful work , Doomsterkent. My favourite might well be the last shot of post 3.

Agree. Personally I think the color are much better come form the Olympus E-m1. When I using 25 F1.2, 42.5 F1.2. it more 3D pop feel when I import the raw file to lightroom. Much easier to post process. The Olympus camera color tone are much stable on different lens and lighting situation. But the Sony will be cooler in outdoor.. and if using on dim light it will have some greenish and yellow tone. It take a lot of time to me to adjust the white balance and color tone to keep them look the same. But the image quality come out form Sony are very good(especially RAW file)

Some of your shots are quite nice. You have that very distinct Taiwan/Hong Kong-influenced style that I'm very familiar with (I used to post a lot at Chinese photography forums).

It's interesting that you sold your Sony FF and favored your M43. I also shoot Sony FF (a7RII) and M43 (E-M1), and the main reason I kept the E-M1 was because of its amazing IBIS for run & gun videos (I shoot just as much videos as stills). If the a7RII's video stabilization had been as good as the E-M1, I would have sold my M43 system. For me, the extra 2-stops of high ISO performance, dynamic range, higher resolution, more DOF control, and superior video IQ was everything I wished the m43 could do but couldn't.
With that said, the fact is, because of E-M1's amazing IBIS for run & gun videos, it became my travel camera, and whenever I go out, I would take it with me and the a7RII would stay at home. This means so many of my photos and videos were taken with the E-M1, and when I go through all the photos I've shot and pick out my favorites, although I can see that the M43 ones don't give me as much DOF separation as the a7RII, and some higher ISO shots aren't as detailed, those issues ultimately don't matter as much as how the shots were taken (composition, model's expression/pose, lighting, etc.), and my choice of favorites don't seem to favor one system over the other.
I think the old adage of "the best camera is the one you have with you and know how to use" is so true. The differences between M43 and FF are far less than, let's say, smartphone or small-sensor compacts and M43. I had tried to use prosumer compacts and smartphone as my travel cameras before, and they just don't cut it in terms of IQ (particularly dynamic range and high ISO). But M43 is absolutely good enough for most of what any photographer would need, and it's only the more niche/esoteric demands that would require other systems.
BTW, I posted my M43 shots vs other formats in this thread: Comparing my M43 shots with other formats (image heavy)
