Took this video the other night using a Takahashi Mewlon 250 telescope and a Panasonic GH3 camera coupled afocally to a 13mm telescope eyepiece. Used the GH3's Extended Teleconverter function for increased magnification.

    Check it out.

Looks like the seeing wasn't too great. Nice capture though.

    Thank for looking.

Actually, for a ~500X view, the seeing was pretty good. For this video, Saturn was on the Meridian, about 50 deg above the horizon.

Had it been closer to straight up (not possible from my location this time around), it could have looked even better. About 8 years ago, I viewed saturn close to straight up and it was incredibly crisp.

Very cool. I wish I could do that, but I don't even understand everything you said!

I saw saturn at opposition last year when local seeing was 8 out of 10. Excelent views in an 8" reflector. I was able to push it to about 400x. I'm not sure how crop factor and magnification work when doing afocal video/photography. One thing you could do is break the video into frames and then stack the best images using registax or some program like that. One thing cameras tend to do well is show color contrast really well, which your video seems to capture nicely, especially the color of saturn's atmostphere.

Great video can you run it through registax and get a fantastic photo?

I was getting pretty good shots using registax with a simple webcam if you can use hd in registax the results would be amazing. You might have to convert hd to avi ,the seeing you have was a lot better than any I had back when I was doing this!
