London Bridge, Sandstone by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

The Sandstone area has countless natural rock formations or 'breakaways' that contrast dramatically with the rust-stained landscapes.

Believed to be 350 million years old, one of the most spectacular breakaways known as 'London Bridge' was once wide enough to allow and horse and sulky to cross. Over the years, however, it has been eroded to its present width of one metre.

The Island - Towan Island - UK2016-65 by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

The house on Towan Island, perched 24 metres above the sea and connected to the mainland by a 30-metre suspension bridge, apparently the only privately owned suspension bridge in the UK. Today the house is a luxury bed and breakfast.

At one time the house was owned by the son of Sir Oliver Joseph Lodge, the inventor of the spark plug.

We visited Newquay in July 2016.

The 313 steps, equivalent 25 stories stairs leads down to the Point Reyes Lighthouse (foggy at the time.)

With the relaxing of Covid-19 restrictions somewhat and having a few days leave, I took the opportunity to take my Salsa Mukluk fatbike for an overnighter to the Munda Biddi campsite at Wungong.

The first brief section of the ride was sneaking out of Jarrahdale on the Wattle Trail (a walking trail).

This rider I suspect had no idea of my existence as I sat on the summit of the Barlangi Rock having camped here overnight. This is a very remote area so to see a rider, let alone a lone rider was unusual.

Barlangi Rock has a long history, going back some two billion years when a meteorite slammed into what is now outback Western Australia. The impact left a 70-kilometre-wide scar on the land known as the Yarrabubba impact crater. Sadly, the crater is no longer visible.
