Sorry about the sharpness, will post better photos later. At least you get a hint about the magnification and coverage.

    Only the lens

And photos with just the lens:

The lens is really sharp. I did some calculations before where i got 3:1 magnification (?) should be enough to get nice insects photos. I'll be back...

    More photos here...

Tried with various objects at home. All pics are 100%, no crop. Only adjustment is levels.

This pic with some measurements gave about 2.8X magnification.

(width 487,7mm and between 5mm on the scale it is 396,7mm. That gives 2,814 magnification if the sensor width is 17,3mm)

(this page says 3.34X if 50mm with 0.5X and 142mm bellow, some measurement must be wrong there)

    ...

Here is a focus stacked version of the 3mm bolt (M3), 8 exposures.

Re-rigged the slider and stuff. Found some unused equipment that could be used to this. A small clip to hold the end of the bellow. A clamp to hold the object, on the smaller tripod. And the light-umbrella-rig.

Lots of trouble just to get above 1:1 magnification :) well, I got these stuff cheap and wanted to try some extreme macro. On my last system I had the Sigma 105/2.8 macro with a Canon 18-55 zoom on reverse ring. That was really extreme, very difficult to handle. This setup was also very difficult. The DOF is extremely shallow and the slider is really crappy. One thing that could be spent a little more money on is the slider, especially when doing stacking it's really hopeless with a slider that's not really sturdy. And... I might have used a wider lens to be able to get even more magnification. But I have a feeling this will do it for now.

Next plan is making an own 20cm extension tube for using native lenses! :) maybe it could be done using a lens cap and a body cap!? Don't know. It's fun to experiment... :)
