This thread is for the original 'K' series Pentax 50mm f1.2 - this one has the following printed on the front: SMC Pentax 1:1.2/50 then the serial number, then ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN.

There was a later version that is very similar optically but had an extra aperture blade (9 as opposed to 8 on the K). Printed on the front is SMC Pentax-A 1:1.2 50mm. This version is usually more expensive because of more metering functionality on Pentax dSLRs, but there shouldn't be any difference on Micro Four Thirds.

I've only just got my copy, so hopefully I'll have some more shots and thoughts to share soon

Here's one to start - f1.2 on GH2 with Fotodiox adapter.

Yep, I ended up getting one from the Czech Republic. It pretty much looks brand new so it was worth the wait  It will be very interesting to see how it goes stopped down compared to the M50/f1.4, which I've found very sharp from f4-11...

The K135/f2.5 is in the post as we speak so I think I'll have LBA satisfied soon  Well, perhaps a K200/f2.5 as well... And possibly if Voigtlander release a wide-angle MFT Nokton

Nice nice and more nice! I started with a Pentax M-50/1.7. When I got to dSLRs I ended up with a Nikon 50/1.4 but never got along with it - too long and too short, if you know what I mean. The GH2 has breathed new life into my M50/1.7, but I really covet the 50/1.2 because it's "bokeyer". Have you shot any video with it?

Hi John. I sold my M50/f1.7 with my Pentax MX kit to fund an LX and M50/f1.4, so I never had a chance to use the f1.7 on the GH2... I'm tempted to try and find another now, lots of people claim it's the sharpest of the Pentax 50s stopped down...

The K-50/f1.2 is a beast of a lens, although to be honest I'd probably say the f1.4 is a tad sharper... It's also comparatively *cheap* because the A50/f1.2 has more functionality on Pentax dSLRs.

Still haven't had a chance to get my head around video - it's my post-graduation project... I think the SMC 50mm and Nokton 25mm should prove quite the pair

I struggle to focus at f1.2, but when I nail it I love the result. Actually, even when my focus is out the results often have that impressionistic painterly quality to them that they look great anyway.

We almost need a meta thread capability so regardless of manufacturers its possible to have a sort by aperture / focal length across brands - see all the f1.2 in one place

Not quite what you meant, but I just started this - would be great to get a sub-f1.2 collection going

Bought this lens recently by chance. Love it, though it is quite soft at 1.2 with m4/3rds sensor. All in all it's a great lens. Some shots at different F stops below, camera E-M5.

    Hi,
The lens has a lovely bokeh, I wonder if you can compare it against the smc takumar 1.4/50 @1.4 or if anyone has ever did that test.

Never had smc takumar 1.4/50 myself, but I think pentax is better to compare with another fast F1.2 glass. I think F1.2 and F1.4 lenses are just from different leagues. I believe pentax smc 1.2/50 should be better than takumar 1.4/50 at F1.4. Anyway if someone could make a real life test, it will be great :)
