Re-bought this lens from KEH. This is the later version -- SMC Takumar with the rubberized ring. This was not the version I expected, but turns out it's still wonderful. From what I've read, it's the same optical formula, but more aperture blades and no yellowing. The bird pic is a heavy crop, likely at f/2.8

Of all the legacy lenses I shot with a few years ago, this was always the most fun - just something enjoyable about manual focusing with a nice solid piece of gear. I sold it off after picking up the Oly 45/1.8 but I still think about buying back a copy…

I'm keeping my Panny 45/1.7, but I enjoy having this lens again. Each lens serves a different purpose. I sold my last Takumar because I was shooting with more compact bodies, and it's kind of heavy. Now that I've settled on my G85, the Takumar has a nice balance with it. This specific copy is so clean, I can't see a reason to sell it anytime.

Good on ya. That image looks even better on my home computer. The work laptop is pretty rubbish. As to the Super Tak 50/1.4, yeah it gets pretty soft/dreamy wide open. Reposted from the Adapted Lens thread:

But at f4.0 and an extension tube, cropped pretty tight:

I was watching a Dutch gentleman on YouTube, he reviews a TTartisan 35/1.4. Apparently the inscribed optical formula on the lens is a near match to the Tak.

So I ordered one  .. coming soon!

P.S. pretty close other than the front element!
