I just won a copy for $50. Gonna buy the m42 and use it, but I'm kind of worried about the radioactivity.

I wanted to buy some Russian lenses but I stopped because of the radioactivity.

Hmmm.

I don't know why but focusing my Takumar 50mm f1.4 seems to always feel like the DOF is ultra thin, even at considerable distance and stopped down
Results however are OK

Barry, I didn't know there were "themes" on this Forum; is that like "settings"? I don't know how to look that up/ view it...
I tend to use the maroon (dark red) font color to separate from the common black. Do you view/see black text as white on your dark theme?
Maybe black is the only color that is reversed?...
PS this was written in plain "black"

Oh, I see it now! The dark red is really hard to read against the dark theme black background.
The only way to easily see the low contrast text it to drag the mouse over it where it then appears white on blue.
Would that help?
On the upside, the dark red looks stealth :ninja:

Surprisingly, I couldn't find a thread for this lens. Mods, feel free to move this if I've missed something.

Putting this lens to work. I got a m42/k adapter and used that with a m43/k adapter - it works but is very loose. The lens came free several times. I suspect this was just the side-effect of two cheap adapters. I should try it on my K1000 to see if its the m43 or the m42 adaptor thats not quite up to spec.

Pretty good overall, as expected it was very soft wide open but stops down nicely

This at f2

And this is more like f5.6

The field of view, the focus mechanics, the look and feel, and the output of this lens on m43 just really works, IMO, for an MF lens.

Agree. Not all MF lenses work so well for me on m43. I have trouble focusing near infinity with some lenses where the helicoid is just too "steep" (or something) and moving the focusing ring even a tiny fraction results in out-of-focus images. The Takumar has a rather generous distance between infinity and let's say 5 meters so I can easily nail the focus of distant subjects.
Lenses over 28mm that only turn 1/3 of barrel (80 degrees) are not my favourite. Not all MF lenses are as easy to use as the Takumar.
