I have spotted a couple of pentacon lenses at a local bazaar, I know the guy very well and he is keeping them back whilst I am enquiring as to there worth and pro's/con's.

    They are a 50mm f1.8 multi-coated and a 30mm f3.5 multi-coated.

He is asking £20($30) for the pair, they are both scratch free, no dust or fungus, smooth to focus and snappy dry irises!

What say you? Should I or should I not buy them both?

I have the 50 f/1.8 in m42 mount. It really has a very nice rendering quality to it.
Some flare wide open but sharp with nice bokeh stopped down a click or 2.

I don't use mine much due to a stiff focus ring, but would recommend one to you.

To be frank, i would grab anything like that just because of the price. £20 is not a lot to lose when you are getting two lenses, both of which are quality items. You could pay far more on ebay/gumtree for just the 50mm f1.8. Grab 'em, enjoy 'em and post some pics. Darren :D

I have a pentacon auto 1.8/50 single coated. It has a distinct personality that without being too sharp, makes lovely pics with a vintage look. The cons are that it develops a stiff focus, has the longest focus drive I can remember of any other lens I have used and is very very soft wide open. On the other hand it has tons of bokeh even closed down. The single coated version makes lovely black and white photos due to low contrast rendering.
The mechanic's of the lens is very bad, I know this because I have cleaned one. If it was a car, it would be a Trabant.
Anyway I love it and can recommend it!

I was out street shooting today with my Pentacon 29/2.8 on my 20d. It is quite a decent lens. I think I paid 15 euro for it plus a zenit 50/1.8 plus a zenit 19 body, all mint, at a thrift store, but that was an exceptional deal. As others have noted £20
