This lens can be reversed to achieve quite good macro. I usually have this lens with two adapters attached: m4/3-to-M42 on the camera side, and m4/3-to-52mm reverse mount ring with 52mm extension tube on the filter side. In this way I can switch between portrait lens (with a hood) and macro lens in 2 seconds (and the same m4/3 cap can be used to protect glass in both configurations).

reversed=macro sample:

Gorgeous colours.
I also have one of these, close up manual focus is super finely tunable due to the long throw of the focus ring. I have to manually press the little lever to close the aperture blades though, so it's a bit of work using it.

Nice images, I have one which came on a Praktica Camera. I was quick to discover that this is a good lens and it is much sharper than my Yashica 1.9.

I have cropped the first two to my liking and converted them to bw using my Lumia 920(sorry). The third one has a contrast and saturation boost and the last one is frozen cold in Lumia 920(sorry again).

No need to apologize, sharing images is what these threads are for. Editing on a phone or computer is all the same - end result is what matters.

The images have a bit of a film-like quality to them. Very pleasing.

Ahh, the Pentacon 50mm 1.8 Such a fantastic lens. When I found my late mothers camera (a Praktica MTL 5) one of these was stuck on the front of it. I've since adapted it to Pentax, Nikon, and Canon. It's always the first non-native lense I play with.
Love, LOVE the bokeh

looking at the samples here made me realize that I don't have a "bad copy", it's just the nature of the beast ;)
I took the lens for some street photography as I wanted to have shallow depth of field I mainly shot wide open. Well, the results I got were a bit too glowy for my liking even tho through the viewfinder they really looked good. I think this lens is best suited for portrait, or images at closer distance, when wide open. Closed down a bit the lens is fine.
On the other hand it renders the bokeh in a very particular way, almost painting-like.
It's like Helios 44-2 and Trioplan 50mm had a child :laugh1:
So far I only like close up pix from it:

I've had one of these for a while now, used it a lot on my DSLRs - soft at 1.8, but stop it down just a tiny bit and it's one of my favourite lenses. Works even better on my EM-1 as focusing is a million times easier! :D
