Yesterday I updated the firmware on my Oly OM 1D in five minutes, I then attempted to upgrade firmware on my GX8. I gave up after 2 1/2 hours. The whole process is unusual. The zipped firmware file that must be downloaded will not open on my Mac even after spending nearly $30 on WinZip.

I'm probably being technologically stupid here but I really need help.

    Thank you.

Assuming you are referring to the new firmware, yes you can download either version. When I try to unzip the downloaded file it immediately is archived and disappears. Very frustrating.

FYI, the last Mac that came without built-in unzip capability (i.e. was not UNIX-based) was sold until 2002 ... I've put the .bin file up on Dropbox for you to grab during the next couple of hours (now removed). But there is a possibility that you have to get your file manager to treat .bin files as normal files (I'm not at all familiar with OSX, but .bin could be treated as binary by the system, but won't run). If you don't have an idea where the file was put on unzip, I'd download directly to SD card.

Macbook Pro + El Capitan -> double clicked downloaded file GX8__V22.bin.cpgz and it unzipped into GX8__V22.bin in the same directory as the original file.
No WinZip required. Hope this helps.

I have the earlier OS, not El Capitan. It just immediately says it is being archived and no amount of searching can locate it. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I don't know what.

The downloaded file is GX8__V22.bin.cpgz and it unzips into GX8__V22.bin in the same folder.

I did. My problem was that I didn't realize that the bin file w3as al I needed to put on the SD Card.

Once I tried that it was very simple.

Thanks for your help and for following up.
