Hi guys, had this lens for a while now and used it very successfully on my Olympus OMD-EM1. However when I first used it, I got a horrible clicking noise from the aperture blades, which on the OMD I managed to sort by turning off flicker reduction.

I recently purchased a Panasonic GX8 (which I love), but much to my dismay, this lens also clicks like mad on that too, which I was surprised at with both combos being Panasonic.

I can't see a "flicker reduction" setting on the GX8, so is this noise something I have to live with, or is there a trick to sort it please ?

    Many thanks.

that might be the PL25mm "rattlesnake" rattle. Was a fairly common complaint from Olympus shooters, but I've never considered it that bad on mine – it's barely noticeable.

Yours might be a worse case though. I've never heard of it on Panasonic bodies, but maybe the lens is just stopping the blades down on shutdown and opening them on power up? idk... if it bothers you take it in.

Then you are very lucky. Mine is very noticeable as you can hear in this video of mine:

I don't have a Pana camera to compare, but I also don't recall ever hearing from Pana camera users that it rattles on their cameras. I always thought that the rattling only happens on Olympus cameras.

Your camera may be set on AFC (i.e. Continuous) which means that it will continuously hunt for a subject to focus on and hence you will keep hearing the clicking sound. Try to set your camera to AFS and see if this will help solve the problem.

Mine clicks a ton on my EM10. It's not AFC, it's the aperture blades.

Mine stopped clicking if I kept it at max aperture. Obviously this wasn't a satisfactory solution. I sold it because of this problem.

But why watch a 2 minute video when you can just sell the lens instead?

I sold the lens 2 years ago. How old is the video ?

Somebody gave me the solution a few years ago on this forum:
Panasonic 25 mm & rattlesnaking noise
I didn't watch the video but I guess the solution is the same.
    (flicker reduction OFF).

No, it's not because of AF-C. It rattlesnakes (is that even a proper verb?) in every AF mode and even in MF.
    Mine clicks even wide open.
    Yes, that's the solution.
