A forum member named dcjerk at www.omuser.com (Hong Kong) has gotten up close and creamy with the new Panasonic Leica 25mm Summilux for Micro 4/3. If I correctly understood the Google-translated Chinese, all samples are straight out of the camera JPEGs from a Panasonic G3 set to "scenery mode".

The thread starter made some general comments about the new lens, observing that it was fast to focus and quiet (although not silent). In terms of build and optical performance, he found it to be of the same pedigree as the outstanding 25mm Summilux for regular (non-Micro) Four Thirds.

If you're looking for bokeh (out-of-focus blur) samples from the new lens, you'll find some great ones here. I was actually thinking I would pass on this lens until I came across these images. Now I'm not so sure. You've been warned!

Check out the thread here: Original (Chinese) / Google translation

Love it....That one picture of the dancer/geisha has really nice bokeh. Why is this not considered portrait lens again?

At least you're not like me, using Google Translate to follow this dcjerk fellow around hoping he'll drop a bone about the rumored upcoming Panasonic fast zoom .

Pardon me whilst I wipe the drool from my face. Looks like I'm going to have to set aside some cheddar for this beauty of a lens.

At $900+ I was all no, no, no...

At $600 (and the nice samples) I'm feeling all warm inside.....

Had the same thought. $899 (the earlier rumor) I convinced myself it was too much. $600, and i pre-ordered from Adorama. I think this lens could REALLY help the m43 line.

I was definitely going for the CV25 before seeing these samples...

these samples look a lot nicer than the other site. and at $599, wow. I'm not sure this will sway me from the 20/1.7 I have though. It certainly is tempting just to have both, haha.

I like the samples a lot, and, in my limited knowledge, I think it will be a reference in the system.

I know they are different in many ways, but I wonder if this will put a little downward pressure on the CV25 -- maybe drop it back into it's list price range, rather than the street price of $1300.

My pleasure. Actually, I've been following this dcjerk fellow over at omuser for months waiting for him to drop a pearl. Even in the Google translation, I could tell from the way others treat him that he has the hook up. Maybe he works for Panasonic? It would be nice if other sites which picked up on this story would give us credit for the find though .

This is good news for MU43, and will be a wonderfull marriage with the G3.

Before when it was rumored to be $900+ I thought there wasn't much point in getting this lens over either the 20 1.7 or the cv nokton. Now at $599, that price made me pre-order too! :)
A bargain considering that no one has the 20 1.7 and used prices are approaching the same price.
