This is one that got really popular on Flickr and I don't understand why. It's such a random picture. It's not bad, but the light blue/yellow thingy in the background bothers me a lot, just like the tiny orange bike flag.

It has some nice leading lines and an older architecture, so I'm not surprised people like it.

I just ordered a PL 15/1.7 to replace the Oly 17/1.8 that I was never really happy with. Image quality was below that of my Oly 12-40/2.8 as well as lower contrast. Fixable in post processing, but I don't always want to be "fixing" it.

I've had both of these lenses over the years. 15/1.7 is very sharp, I would even say clinically sharp, but I feel that 17/1.8 has better more pleasing bokeh (perhaps because of a slightly different focal length) although not clinically sharp. As I have been loading up on m43 lenses again before a trip, I had to make a proverbial 15/1.7 vs 17/18 decision: which one to get for my trip. I was buying used, so the price difference was not significant. Ultimately I decided to go with 17/1.8.

I also prefer O17. I had PL15 for a few days but after tests I like pictures from O17 more . PL15 is sharper lens a little bit (I have a good copy of O17). I like colors from O17 more , also photos are more „organic” , like from film era.

I live in the snowbelt of Western NY where most every day is dull & drab, especially in the winter. There isn't a colorful scenic to be had anywhere within hundreds of miles. Basically, I live in the butt crack of the east. (These are NOT MY HOUSE). The colorful house, named "The Prophet House" was photographed exactly 10 days prior to the owners passing away, less than a week ago. RIP Isaiah!

Compare the amount of aperture blades and glass elements.

I absolutely love this lens. The only way I can see it being supplanted by another prime is if Panasonic updates the 20/1.7 with faster, silent AF and weather sealing. (apologies for cross posting but a lot of my 15mm images are also going into the Real Street II thread)

At the end of the Lunar New Year holiday the other day I caught a lion dance performance outside some historic village homes:

I'm not being paid by Panasonic, lol. I promise. This isn't a promotional post.

But imo there's not a body in the MFT catalogue - from the tiny GM5 to the larger Em1's/G9's - that isn't made better by owning this lens. Mine is looking very battered, the lens hood bayonet worn away to the point that i use bluetack to hold it on! But its my Charlton Heston lens. "From my cold, dead hands". I'm tempted to buy a black one as well, but I live in hope that one day Pana may give us a weathersealed "version 2". If they do, it'll be the "must own" lens of the system, if it isn't already.

All tweeked jpegs.
